Hello my lovely readers!

I am pretty much running on fumes right now. After a long workweek, entertaining guests from Scotland and the Oscars, (Oscar night is MY night,) my plate has been overflowing. Then there was also the lovely bridal shower I went to last weekend.

Meet my weekend!

When I say lovely - it really was. My good friend of over 10 years is marrying a great guy that I have known for about five years, so this is a wedding I am really excited about. So I was in Orange County this weekend, where her bridesmaids threw a fabulous, movie themed shower. It was so cool. The theme was 'Mamma Mia,' so there were dancing queens, awesome decor and best of all - Greek food!

I really, really enjoyed myself. Seeing my friend so happy, and watching her friends and family bestow their love and blessings just made me even more excited for the union of these two wonderful people! I just know they're soul mates.

Which of course makes me think, is there a man after midnight for me? Someone to help chase the shadows away?

I often think there is... and as you all know well enough by now, I always think someone has potential and then things just seem to unravel in bizarre ways, or have very unexpected endings.

Enter the bonfire story.

Due to recent developments, I thought I would share this one this week.

Last summer Natasha and I threw a bonfire. We thought it would be fun to just invite pretty much everyone we knew and make a big beach party out of it. A bonfire is always a good reason for a party.

Another good reason to party was the fact that our friend Sheila was visiting from Nashville. Sheila... is unabashedly the life of most parties and has a real knack for blurting things out that are somewhat shocking.

Seeing as we were inviting everyone we knew... we invited good-looking Isaiah. Neither Natasha nor I knew Isaiah that well, but he is really good looking, so I figured inviting him to the bonfire would be a great idea. And it was... he turned out to be a really nice guy as well, and let's just say I developed a crush on him very quickly. As I usually do.

Another friend of ours came that night as well; my girlfriend Jackie who I have known for a very very long time. (I go further back with Jackie than I do Natasha, and that's saying something.) To add to the confusion of new names introduced in this blog, there is one more person I have to mention: Isaiah's good friend and roommate, Jeremy who was in attendance that night as well.

(Me being coy and appealing.)

You will see in a moment how this will turn into a midsummer's night dream.

Not long after Isaiah and Jeremy had arrived, I walked up to them and tried to strike up a conversation with Isaiah by acting coy and appealing.

Knowing that I was eying him, Sheila decided to 'help' me out by being my wing-woman. She is the helpful sort.

She marched straight up to Isaiah who was silently drinking a beer, and busts out with: "So, SPEAKING OF JAZZ...."

He gave her a quizzical (startled) look. I mean no one was even talking, let alone about jazz.

She took his look as an invitation to continue. "Natalie loves Dean Martin! Wouldn't it be nice if you two took a long walk on the beach alone and talked about your mutual love of jazz?" She winked.

Oh God.

You can imagine what followed. More awkward glances and a very, very brief conversation about Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.

Isaiah: "Uh, you like jazz?"

Me: "Yeah... I love Dean Martin."

Isaiah: "Yeah. And uh, Frank Sinatra?"

Me: "Oh yeah."

Isaiah: "Ok, cool..."

And that was that.

Poor guy. He never saw Sheila coming!

After getting over this minor hump, I was still undeterred. After the bonfire we all headed over to a nearby restaurant to eat some real food. When we arrived, I put in my best effort to sit as closely to Isaiah as possible. Naturally, his friend and roommate Jeremy was there, also sitting in his vicinity, and Jeremy was looking at me kind of... oddly.

I ignored the looks. We all ordered our food and ended up having a great time. My friend Jackie who I mentioned above came over to our side of the table and she and Isaiah struck up a discussion. But I wasn't worried. Her long-term boyfriend was there that night too, so I had free range!

By now you know my drill. I am casting 'come hither' glances toward James, and I am pretty sure he is sending them back! But Jackie just will not stop interrupting our conversations.

And then out of nowhere Jeremy decides to sit down... in my lap. (Close enough, anyway.)

Awkward. Why is Jeremy sitting so close to me? Why won't he stop talking? This was not the plan.

We finished up the evening and after a few pictures we all started to say good-bye. I managed to suavely give Isaiah my number, everything was fabulous!

Until Jeremy walks up to me and asks for MY phone number, and then I see Jackie whispers something into Isaiah's ear with a giggle.

Oh no. NOW I get it. Oh no.

So to recap: at this point I like Isaiah and Jeremy likes me, and Jackie likes Isaiah... although her boyfriend is there, and I am not sure who Isaiah likes, if he likes anyone that is... and none of this is right! It's all wrong, just like Shakespeare wrote hundreds of years ago. The love gods really screwed this one up. They are always dropping the ball on me.

I ended up talked to both Isaiah and Jeremy several times after the bonfire, mostly online, and nothing really led anywhere... but here we are, months later and I recently found out the following: Jeremy is now married. It would seem that a few months ago, his parents set up an arranged marriage, and one giant wedding later, he is someone's husband.

Everyone is getting marrie

And... get this. Jackie and Isaiah are ENGAGED. Yes, that's right. My friend since forever is marrying Isaiah. Apparently it turns out that Jackie and her boyfriend were in the midst of a break up that night and she and Isaiah started dating a few weeks after the bonfire. I hear they're getting married next year. Wow. Crazy stuff.

Honestly though, I'm happy for both of them, and I wish them all the best.

As for my dear friend, whose bridal shower I went to and whose wedding is coming up soon, (Is everyone getting married?) I'm hoping her big day will be a good one for me too. I'm planning to meet someone on the dance floor, or at least get a good story! I will keep you updated of course!!

Later this week I am going on a road trip to San Diego with some friends, let's see if anything interesting happens over the weekend. Till next week!
