Last Comic Standing...First Comic Falling

ANOTHER comedian from "Last Comic Standing" just died. The very talented and hysterical Mike DiStefano passed away last week and it really makes me wonder about this show. I will be hit with negative blogs after comics read this but guess who doesn't care? I know that people love to see comedy on television. I love comedy! But do we need that competitive element attached with established professional comedians who have already been seen in movies and have had specials on HBO and Comedy Central? I just don't understand why they do put themselves through the competitive amateur madness with these credits, although I can honestly say I've never seen the show with the exception of commercials. People LOVE Kate Gosselin so what do I know?

I was asked to audition and did against my instinct years ago. I'm glad I did as it explains a whole lot about what takes place in this show.sunda croonquist

The "judge/producer" says to me: "You are very funny... you have a show at the Laugh Factory, am I right?" I respond, "yes"... he responds: "Well, I'm very sorry but we have to pass on you." No explanation...

I should have said I worked at the Bronx Zoo! Guess he wasn't a fan of the club. If anyone denies this situation happened, they can check the tape as all "competitors" were taped.

I said thank you and left...not mad but embarrassed that as a favor to someone I ACTUALLY auditioned for the most cursed comedy show on the air! I've never felt good about the show and since then I've become superstitious about it for personal reasons.

Richard Jeni, truly one of the greatest comics of all time "allegedly" auditioned for this show and wasn't chosen. America lost a great comic when he took his own life and I'm not saying it happened because of the show but the list goes on: Greg Giraldo, wonderful comic, father and husband was a judge on this show just died a few months ago. Now, it's the very funny Mike DiStefano. An untimely death and a loss to the comedy community.

This show has destroyed more relationships than Angelina Jolie!

Comics who have been friends for YEARS don't speak to each other after one "made it" on the show and one didn't. They have stolen material from other comics and as we know in the comedy world, once it's on TV...it's done. That performer owns it.

I spoke to a fellow female comic during the audition. She said "Don't talk to me, I'm superstitious...I don't want anybody putting the "evil eye" on me!" Now I think SHE'S crazy and I don't talk to her!

You're told: "Do the show even if you don't win! You'll be recognized...you make more money on "the road!" I don't want to be on the road! I want my talk show "James and Sunda" to be a hit and be here for my daughters! I have enough recognition and should thank my mother in law for that but we'd end up in another lawsuit.

I like all the judges equally but that level of comics judging their contemporaries? Madness. It reminds me of "Spiderman..the Musical!" Everybody's goin' down!

Friendships destroyed, deaths, divorce! Sure it happens on many shows but STAND UP COMEDY? And no, Charlie Sheen does NOT count! He is somewhere "winning!"

If you're 21 and over contact: editor@virtualjerusalem.com and I will get you comp tickets (one time only and ONLY if I'm not sold out!) so you can have a night out in Hollywood at the Laugh Factory for the 8:00 PM show. For a two drink minimum you can appreciate LIVE Stand Up Comedy, not "Cut Throat Comedy" where performers have to be mean to their fellow comics for the sake of... "reality." As with all comedians, our prayers go out to the families of Greg Giraldo and Mike DiStefano of "Last Comic Standing."

Now I will throw salt over my shoulder for "Jersey luck" and I thank you for tuning into VJ...where we tell you like it is....and like it was!
