Shlomo Alan Veingrad was invited to the White House during Jewish Heritage Month to partake in a special evening honoring prominent members of the Jewish community. Assembled together in one room were leaders from various fields with little in common but their Jewish heritage. VirtualJerusalem sat down with Veingrad to hear more about his experience.

VJ: Was this your first time visiting the White House?

Shlomo Veingrad: I have been to the White House before actually, with my daughter Brooke during a recent trip to the area -  however this was my first time inside. It was exciting and I was proud to have been invited. It was a privilege.

VJ: What did it feel like to be in the same room with the creme de la' creme of the Jewish world?

Veingrad: I felt proud of being a Jew of all the accomplishments by those in attendee and what they have contributed to society.

VJ: With all that you have accomplished in your life, what do you think is your greatest accomplishment?

Veingrad: Becoming Torah Observant,  reconnecting with Judaism and wearing my faith on my sleeve.

VJ:  Was there anyone you were especially excited to meet at the Jewish Heritage Dinner?

Veingrad: Yes. Bill Goldberg former Pro Wrestler, NFL Football Player and Proud Jew - and of course Sandy Koufax!

VJ: Did you get to meet President Obama? What was that experience like?

Veingrad: The President did not mingle or interact with us, he only came out to Speak during the program.

VJ: What do you feel is the most important message the Jewish community should be focusing on at the moment?

Veingrad: It is imperative that the Jewish community has access to reliable and accurate information regarding this administration's stance on Israel and what is happening in Israel.

VJ: Absolutely. We have to ask... how was the meal?

Veingrad: The meal was amazing! Supervised by Rabbi Shemtov of Chabad Washington DC, it was all served on china with silver utensils.

VJ: Next time, can you take us with you?

(Veingrad merely smiles...)
