In the liberal world guns are viewed as evil.
In truth, guns are a tool which can be used for good or evil.
Plastic bags are also tools; they can bundle garbage or, as used by the Khymer Rouge of Cambodia, to murder one million innocent souls through suffocation.
Do we hear anyone calling for garbage bag control?
The Torah is quite explicit about man's obligation to defend himself against harm. It is incumbent to kill someone who has come to kill you. Thus, the preemptive strike--personal or national--is sanctioned by halacha, Jewish law.
There is no place in Judiasm for pacifism. In fact, not to act against evil is evil itself.
Liberal Jews are, no surprise, in the forefront of gun control, code for banning private ownership of weapons.
Of course, this guarantees that the state and criminals have a monopoly on guns.
Not a desirable scenario.
One of Hitler's first laws was banning private ownership of weapons.
Same for Stalin.
Thus, modern liberal ideology and classic genocidal totalitarianism cozily converge.

Remember, it was men with guns--lots and lots of guns--who defeated the Nazis, liberated the concentration camps, and crushed imperial Japan, not pacifists, peaceniks, or students of, ahem, conflict resolution, code for useless and delusional academics.
