Can the time be going so quickly? The holidays are really upon us and I am grateful to all my friends who invite me for Sukkot! It's really hard when you live on the Corridor in LA to pull that together on a terrace! With my known neighbor problems we have no idea what will drop on us from above!
Yom Kippur... my favorite High Holy Day was magnificent. My husband and I received an Aliyah which although is an honor makes me very shy and I couldn't put the cover on the Torah Scrolls. SO EMBARRASSING!
The madness continued: People were asking my husband and I to move our seats so their family could sit next to them. I had no problem with this, except it was reserved seating! It's hard to explain this in Farsi but don't ask me how I ended up holding a baby that wasn't mine and passing him down to his grandmother only to have the mother motion to me that she missed her baby and wanted him passed back to HER! Babies are being passed...Gas is being passed and all I want is to PRAY!
The Rabbi made a few jokes as he always does as an icebreaker, which is a great idea until people ask me to explain the joke when they don't understand it, although they laugh!

Now, I'm translating, listening, praying and passing babies...I was EXHAUSTED! So exhausted, I forgot to be hungry!
Last night was the parents get together for our school. We had to say something about ourselves that nobody knew about. I revealed I had a degree in Criminal Justice and worked as a PI for a short time. That was revealing but what was more revealing was that one mom said she loved "spinning" classes!
Let me explain about this spinning class. I did this and thought that I was at Death's door but had to maintain my composure as my trainer at the time kept telling people I was a comedian. I thought for sure I could die right there.
The second time in my life I thought I could die was when I tried an apple martini. One of the moms asked me: "Why would an apple martini kill you?" I had no answer but remember clearly being at a Temple event where someone offered me one. I remember thinking "Apple? An apple martini can't be a strong drink! Well, It's not for me. I remember dancing and telling my husband, "Mark, could I die from this?" He said: "Don't be silly but sit down and drink some water!"
It's been an interesting holiday and I look forward to performing with the Raging Jews of Comedy on November 12th at Temple Aliyah in Woodland Hills.
The New Year is here! L'Chaim! To life and laughter! Everyone have a great holiday and thank you for tuning into VJ where we tell you like it is.... and like it was!
