Wake Me... I'm Dreaming!
I've been away for a bit getting some medical issues in order and now that there are no issues... I'm back!
My timing isn't always good. The East Coast has been hit by a hurricane! Wake me! I'm dreaming! It can't be that bad as New Yorkers are tough! Blizzards, thunder storms, ice storms you name it... we handle it! Hurricane Sandy has given the East Coast a lesson in nature.
New Yorkers are not walking the streets on this one, they're flying like Peter Pan! Once the storm hit, we could understand why the government was insisting that certain areas evacuate. But people watching on their flat screen TVs or iPhones in the comfort of their own homes have NO idea what these potential evacuees are thinking, especially older residents who are being are being ordered to leave their home!
I can't even begin to imagine how I'd convince my late grandmother, Eva Brown to leave her belongings and go to a strange place with strange people! However, the hesitancy is the problem and the alternate decision is a lot more complicated in the end. This is evident every time there is breaking news about a volunteer being injured helping last minute evacuees.
It's complicated.
Then there is that "other" group, the "Deniers." They can't fathom the thought of New York going under water!
It's NEW YORK! Everyone was sure they had seen worse ... but the worst is yet to come.
It will be "Hurricane Sandy Aftershock!" So many of my LA friends are telling me I'm obsessed with this storm and they are 100% right. I have friends and relatives all the way from Little Egg Harbor to Paterson and they are not doing great. I keep staring at the television searching for familiar faces in NY and NJ in stricken areas that I recognize.
One thing is for sure: Hashem WILL remind you who's the Boss and he's proving it right now so put on those rubber ducky boots! I pray that all will be safe and forgive me for being so brief but I must stare at my TV set. It's painful at the same time I'm grateful to know that so many people are safe and oh yeah, that that I'm not running for the Presidency of the United States of America! Oh, the timing!
Before I close, I'd like to extend my sympathy to one of my favorite comics, Freddie Roman and his wife, Ethel on the loss of their son: Alan Kirshenbaum. Alan co-created "Yes Dear" and worked on many sitcoms including: "My Name is Earl", "Accidentally on Purpose" and a host of others. Most recently he co-created and executive produced the upcoming mid-season CBS Comedy, "Friend Me." My condolences to his wife Vicki, daughter Molly and sister Judi.
We will weather this storm and Hurricane Sandy... we will never forget you! And VJ readers! Thanks for reading "Hoodzpah! Where we we tell it like it is... and like it was!
