Dane Cook really helped out the at the Hurricane Sandy benefit at the Laugh Factory last night. All proceeds went to the survivors. The other comedians who donated their time were Tom Dreesen, Erik Griffin and Jeremy Hotz.
All of them could have done something else, performed somewhere else, or just watched television, but they came and the crowd enjoyed the show.
Back East, people are mortified at the tragedy. We are seeing scenes of an American city looking like a third world country, and we are also seeing the NY mayor suggest that we still have a marathon amidst this mess - which is bafoonary.
I called it the "aftershock" and i was right. Being from the East Coast I heard different stories than those posted or seen on the news. Yesterday, someone found an eel in their basement! I can't imagine the horror.
My thoughts go to those of whom lost their pictures. Although these pictures are thought of by many as "materialistic" they mean so much to me as I think of that "special" newborn's photo that only the parents kept.
I'm sure there are a lot of pictures that people don't want to be seen. I hope I'm not in any of them... (That was a joke.)
I'm trying to lighten up the mood here, although I'm sure there are many that were lost in my friends' homes that I really do not want seen.
Hurricane Sandy performed a a true natural violation. Katrina was also horrible, but when you are an East Coaster... It's difficult to imagine this happening. This happens "somewhere else but not here!" Well it happened! The tragedy goes beyond words.
Mike Marino, a fellow comedian and dear friend was trying to complete his mother's funeral when the hurricane hit. Can you possibly imagine trying to deal with losing your mother at the same time that you are losing your childhood home?
The good news is that America is coming together and you can all make fun of Governor Christie's thick Jersey accent, but I am so proud of him!
He's in the trenches and as much as I hear "It's his job!" there are so many appointed officials who are not "out there," walking through debris, talking to and comforting families.
This is not a political column and you all know I'm not politically correct, but I am proud of America really pulling it together without hesitation. I continue to put my boxes together, asking friends what they need, and I continue to know who is in charge. I thank Hashem for giving the East Coast a break!
After the hurricane, there was a blizzard! The pictures my friends sent me are just unimaginable.
When people talk of Cabo and Palm Springs... My mind always wanders to the Jersey Shore. I'm a Jersey girl in Los Angeles, and a real transplant in more ways than i have words to express. Ironically many don't realize the severity of the hurricane... read on...
Some moms at my school asked me if it was "really" that bad. "Sunda, everytime you turn on the tv they talk about it! It's enough!"
I look at them differently, now. Governor Christie I think would definitely use his favorite word, look them right in the eye and ask: "Are you stupid?!"
