Tom Bosley, the American actor who will always be fondly remembered as 'the dad from Happy Days' passed away Tuesday, October 19th at his home in Palm Springs due to heart failure. His agent says he was also battling lung cancer. He was 83.

Bosley was Jewish, the son of Dora (née Heyman) and Benjamin Bosley. Apart from his much beloved role in Happy Days as Howard Cunningham, a role he played for all 11 seasons of the show, he also played supporting roles in Murder, She Wrote, and Father Dowling Mysteries, and received a Tony for his performance in the long-running Broadway musical Fiorello! He starred in many movies as well as various animated features.

Word is already coming in from his Happy Days co-stars. Henry Winkler, (the Fonz,) told TMZ that he remembers being blown away by Bosley when he first saw him perform on Broadway. "I got to act with him for 10 years and he was great. Tom Bosley was our mentor. He was a true artist ... a great husband, and a fabulous father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten."

Scott Baio who played Chachi on the show adds: "He was a good man who taught me a lot about the business and business itself. He was a professional guy ... I'm sad."

Bosley is survived by his daughter Amy.
