Tom Hanks may portray Adolf Hitler in the upcoming film, In the Garden of Beasts.
Hanks will be producing the adaptation of Erik Larson's nonfiction best-seller, alongside Gary Goetzman, Hanks' longtime collaborator.
The Hollywood Reporter describes the book as the "...true tale of William Dodd, the United States' reluctant and mild-mannered ambassador to Berlin in 1933, and his daughter Martha, a vivacious socialite who had romantic affairs with a Gestapo official and a Soviet spy. Dodd and his family at first naively navigated life in Nazi Germany (Dodd's daughter was excited when Hitler kissed her hand) but they slowly gained awareness of the mounting brutality around them."
In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin, was published in May.
Inside sources say that Hanks is eyeing the role of Hitler and contemplating starring in the film himself.
Tom Hanks has long had a fascination with World War II. His company Platone was responsible for the Emmy winning Band of Brothers as well as The Pacific and John Adams.
