| For those of u who don\'t know, or decided to conviniently forget, having a beard it not a requirement, its a recommendation. He\'s not doing anything wrong, he just decided that the mountain of laws prescribed in orthodox judaism are enough and opted out of the additional laws that come with religious movements such as Chassidism. You don\'t have to have a beard to b a good jew, shaving is permitted in orthodox judaism a long as an electric shaver is used. The law states that you can\'t put a blade to your face. You\'re doing a great job Matisyahu, hope you find your place in Judaism. You belong here without doubt. Best of luck |

| Im proud of you. You have done something that you knew would anger those who believe having a beard is a must though i challenge any to find where it says it is a halacha. Keep being yourself as well as an inspiration to the world. |

I kind of went through being more Orthodox, and I still technically \"am\" but the bottom line is that you have to be who you are.

| I\'m amazed to read the clearly hateful comments of so many Jews who would revoke their loyalties from a seemingly good human being (and a Jew, no less), all for the act of cutting his hair! Before reading these comments I would have considered myself neutral with regards to the practice of Judaism, but it\'s now coloured my view somewhat in a very negative light. Any God who would support such disdain for something so insignificant as the shaving of a man\'s beard deserves no worship as they\'d be the most utterly hateful and shallow entity. I read a particular comment that referred to Matisyahu as a \"Nazi\" for shaving his beard! The perpetrators of the comments to which I\'ve referred are the lowest form of human being who exhibit how religion is subject to all the shortcomings of man, as each and every faith practiced was invented by the very same flawed creatures who practice them. Shame on you all.
