Who would have thought that Old Jews Telling Jokes would create such a buzz on the streets of New York?
The new off-Broadway show created by Peter Gethers and Daniel Okrent and directed by Marc Bruni, has been keeping audiences entertained since its opening a few weeks ago.
The idea for the show stemmed out of the website, OldJewsTellingJokes.com - a site created by Sam Hoffman to showcase some of the older members of the tribe, telling "Jewish" jokes.
The cast includes Emmy-award-winning actress, Marilyn Sokol, and veteran actors Todd Sussman and Lenny Wolpe. Joining the "Old Timers" are Bill Army and Audrey Lynn Weston who represent the younger generation.
The jokes range chronologically from Birth to Childhood, Dating to Sex, Marriage to Assimilation, and Doctors to Old Age. And for good measure, the show throws in an occasional comic song to the mix.
While most people with a Jewish grandparent will recognize a few of these jokes, this new show is a brilliant way to feature and keep the classic Jewish humor alive and kicking. Old Jews Telling Jokes has got its audience in stitches and is sure to continue to do so for quite some time!
