Chapter Five
When Esther finally went into the king,
he reached out his scepter and embraced her.
What can I do for you my dear? Knowing that the way to a man's heart
was through his stomach, Esther invited him dine with her at an intimate
banquet.
"Oh, and bring Haman too," she cooed, knowing how jealous the king was.
Esther wined and dined them.
Then she asked them to come back for another party the next day.
Haman was very very happy.
Until he saw, Mordechai the Jew outside.
He was so mad, that in order to calm him down, his wife gave him the
occupational therapy of building a gallows to hang Mordechai.
Chapter Six
While Haman was up all night building,
the king couldn't sleep.
So he made his servants read to him from his diary. There it was written
that Mordechai had saved the king from an assassination plot but hadn't ever
been rewarded. Haman turned up just then
in the court. The king asked him how he should reward someone he wishes to
honor.
Haman of course thought the king
was referring to his precious self. "Well, dress him in the king's own
clothes and let him parade on the king's horse!"
"Great!" said the king. "Take care of that with Mordechai, could you?"
And he rolled over to sleep at last.
Poor Haman! He had to lead Mordechai
up and down while everyone cheered. His daughter, thinking he was Mordechai,
and the man on the horse was her father, dumped her chamber pot (the
Persian equivalent of a toilet) on Haman.
She was so disturbed by her breach of filial good manners, that she
jumped off the roof.
Haman was rather depressed when he went home.
Maybe he should take apart that gallows, and take the next bus to Syria.
Too late!
The king's bouncers came to drag him to the party!
