SHAKE YOUR LULAV!
You have your Lulav, you have your Etrog...now what? This year, VJ shows you how to shake your Lulav and Etrog the halachic way, by walking you through the process step by step!
- Take the Lulav with your right hand, and take Etrog with your left.
- Bring both hands together, with the "pitma" of the Etrog facing down, and the "oketz" (the part which is attached to the tree) facing up.
- Recite the bracha:
"Baruch ata Hashem Elokeinu Melech Ha'Olam, Asher Kidishanu BeMitzvotav Vetzivanu Al Netilat Lulav"
- Invert the Etrog to the direction of its growth, with it's "pitma" up and its "oketz" down.
- The Lulav and Etrog is shook in every direction to indicate God's presence throughout the world.

Note: There are stringent requirements regarding some of the minutiae of this command, all within the spirit of "hiddur mitzvah" - the enhancing of the commandment - based on the Hebrew term "pri etz hadar" (the fruit of a goodly tree), associated with the citron. For more details, consult your local rabbinic authority.
