Chocolate Chip Cake

Thanks to Minette Greenman, who will always be loved as a beloved grandmother!

1 c. chopped dates.
1/3/4 c. cake flour
2 tbsp cocoa
1 tspn. soda
½ tspn. salts

Combine 1c. chopped dates with 1 cup boiling water. Let cool to room temp.

Cream:
2/3 c. shortening
1c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions: Add 2 eggs, 1 at a time. Beat well after each addition

Sift together:
1/3/4 c. cake flour
2 Tbs. Cocoa
1 tsp soda
½ tsp. salt

Add to creamed mixture, alternating with date mixture. Spread in greased 9*13 pan. Sprinkle 1 cup choc. chips and 1 c. nuts over the top. Bake 40 - 45 min.
