Coq Au Vin

Thanks to Minette Greenman, who will always be loved as a beloved grandmother!
4 pounds chicken in pieces
1/3 cup flour
1/1/2 tablespoon salt
3 tablespoons margarine or oil
3 large onions, quartered
1/1/2 cups V-8
1/1/2 cups apple-cider
4 oz. mushrooms
1 clove garlic, minced
black pepper, 6 cloves, 1 bay leaf

Directions:
Mix flour and salt in a bag to coat chicken. Slowly brown floured chicken in oil. Add the V-8, apple-cider, and mushrooms to pan drippings, heat to boiling, add onions and seasoning and flour, cover bake. Uncover when done, skim fat, remove spices.
