Norway's Jews Fight Circumcision Law Amendment Follow Virtual Jerusalem on and Date Posted: 2011-05-06 14:42:19
The umbrella organization for Jews in Norway is opposing a proposed amendment that would ban ritual circumcision on boys younger than 15. The Mosaic Religious Community, the umbrella for Norway's Jewish community and Jewish organizations, has sent a letter to Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store and Justice Minister Knut Storberget outlining its opposition to the amendment proposed by the country's state ombudsman for children, the English-language website News and Views from Norway reported. The age limit would be part of a proposed change in the law made last week that would allow ritual circumcision in public hospitals, which is currently banned. Under the proposed change, parents could either have only a doctor present or have religious circumcisers present to carry out the procedure under the observation of medical professionals, the website reported. Jewish boys are circumcised on the eighth day of life. Muslim boys are usually circumcised sometime before their 15th birthday. "This suggestion is going to go to Jewish media all over the world and support the idea that Norway is a 'Jew-hating country,' " Mosaic Religious Community's letter reportedly said. "And we agree -- this will in practice mean that 'Jews don't have access to the kingdom' again."via jta.org

Circumcision isn't just something the Jewish people do on the 8th day because they think it will be fun to watch a baby cry. This is a sacred ritual given to His people directly from God. It has been done on the 8th day since Abraham was first saved by faith. Come on Norway, Really ?

"This is a sacred ritual given to His people directly from God."
Then let him appeal the Norwegian authorities directly if it's so important to him/her/it.
"It has been done on the 8th day since Abraham was first saved by faith."
Irrelevant. Mutilation on a person with no legal rights should be baned. All the rest are excuses.
Ban Circumcision? Are you kidding me?

We don't have to make excuses for following our religion. Our law, the Torah Law commands us to circucise our boys on the 8th day. The only reason to delay that would be for medical reasons. And by the way, our Torah law in this case overrides the local law and custom. Since when does the Government of Norway dictate how Jews should practice their religion. If they don't like us for it, too bad. Anti semitism is a Non Jewish psychological problem. Get over it buddy the end of days are coming. Repent now!

The Jews don't have to beg the Norwegian Government for the right to circumcise their sons, the Torah guarantees that right. Maybe you should become familiar with the Torah as it applies to Jews or Non Jews, whatever you are. But to make a comment like you did, that was insensitive to the Jewish people, you are either very misinformed or an anti semite. You need to figure out which one and if it is the 2nd, get help now before you are forever dammed.
Our son was NOT circumcised

As Christians, my husband educated me that since Jesus shed his blood on the cross for all of us, Jew and Gentile, sacrificing our infant boy's foreskin was unbiblical. Jesus paid the ultimate price so our son was spared the mutilation. In the hospital, the Jewish doctor talked to me about circumcising our son. He didn't agree with our decision but he respected it. He asked me if the boy's father was circumcised. It was actually none of his business, but I politely told him that he was not. He nodded with feigned wisdom like that explained it all. NOT! About 9 or 10 years later while @ the pediatrician's office for a general check-up, waiting, we heard the most horrific sounds coming from another private room. The bone-chilling animal sounds that filled the entire doctor's office forced me to ask the nurse what the hell was happening, she told me a circumsion.I was horrified, sick @ my stomach and emotionally distraught. As the tears flowed down my cheeks,I looked at my whole son and told him that we had spared him that barbaric, brain-imprinting act on his precious small body. He chose not to have his son circumcised, I believe, because of what he heard with his own young ears that very impressionable day cemented his decision to save his son from that same savagery. Our pediatrician told me that the foreskin PROTECTS males from disease, producing a substance called interferon, not the other way around. Please, parents, ask your doctor about that point.PLEASE! Or submit yourself to a baby boy's circumcision and then tell yourself it's OK, it's for health reasons. THEN erase that experience from your head... if you can.

"tears flowed down my cheeks" GIVE ME A BREAK!
You are entitled to your own opinion, but stop trying to interfere in another man's rights...this ritual is performed on Jewish males because the Lord (our Creator) decreed it as a covenant between himself and the Jewish race and who are you or anyone else to go against what God has decreed. As a so called "Christian" you should know this...IF you ever read your bible.

You said, "You are entitled to your own opinion, but stop trying to interfere in another man's rights..."
I wish to call your attention to the first two words of my post, "As Christians". The covenant Jews of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are of course commanded to practice circumcision. For there is no atonement without the shedding of blood. So the animal sacrifices were made and it was pleasing to Elohim.
The 8-day old male child (had no choice), by Mosiac Law was stripped of his foreskin as was pleasing to Our Lord God. Our Bible tells us that after all the sacrifices of both animal and human/male, the Jews drifted away from I AM and started the worshipping and fashioning of idols.
You know the story... it became a back and forth thing, coming back to YHWH, confessing, repenting and obeying His commandments. Then seduction would run rampant again and Our Merciful Judge would become enraged with their disobedience and the blessings dried up. God's anger waxed hot against the Children of Israel. His wrath was fearsome, but He had a plan through His Son Jesus to change all that back & forth business. The beauty of His plan was that Jesus was a Jew, and yes, I believe He was circumcised as was the custom/Law instructed in the Torah.
Then He Himself became the Living Sacrifice for ALL men, not some men or select men, or a certain color of men, or a specific denomination of men; He's ALL things to ALL mankind. His blood dripped, gushed and flowed for me and you and all the readers catching these posts today.
In closing, you wrote, "who are you or anyone else to go against what God has decreed. As a so called "Christian" you should know this...IF you ever read your bible."
Hmmm...again I was speaking from a Christian prospective and was sharing my experience as it relates to circumcising, the shedding of blood that Jesus came to stop. Christians don't make animal sacrifices anymore, therefore we are not commanded in the New Testament or by Jesus Himself, to circumcise our boys. He did it ALL.
As for us, that IS enough.
Have a memorable Memorial Day Weekend Marilyn. I AM.

This is nuts. Not just Jews get circumcised. It is medically healthier.
I know someone is going to say it isn't but most research says it is for the woman and the man.

You are 100% correct Ms K - Muslim males are also circumcised. Not sure if it is done in accordance with the Torah or the Q'ran, but indeed they ARE cut. You stated, "but most research says it is for the woman and the man." I don't understand how that applies to women.? Would you elaborate on that point? As I pointed out previously, my pediatrician told me that the foreskin PROTECTS males from disease, NOT the other way around. Don't believe me, (as GB would say) do your own homework, check with your doctor, ask him, educate yourself about the benefits of your son being a whole male. Please.

Don\'t most Jews know their own history ... that foreskin cutting was only instituted as a political ploy by Jewish Priests during and after the Babylonian Captivity ... by surreptitiously inserting Genesis 17 into the Biblical narrative? Today, at most, it\'s merely an outmoded tradition masquerading as a religious rite.
After all, the original covenant found in Genesis 15 has been disregarded for centuries ... and if Jews can disregard one out-of-date covenant they can disregard others, after they have lost their meaning.
Genital cutting surely isn\'t a religious experience for the child ... all he understands and feels is excruciating pain. The procedure is only meant to establish control over parents ... get them to chop off part of a child\'s genitals ... and you\'ll be able to get them to do almost anything.

Interesting comments Mr/Ms Rood. I was compelled to get my Bible and read both the chapters you referenced, Genesis 15 & 17.
To biblically support my case of non-circumcision, please refer to Paul\'s letter to Titus 1:10-16. That should put to rest the condemnation of those who choose not to place their infant sons under the knife. There are many references to circumcision in the Biblical text. Romans 4:1-22, Galatians 2:7, Gal. 5:2 and 6. Check your concordance for more confirmations. Shalom.
