A Kol Nidre service will take place at the protest movement known as Occupy Wall Street.

The service, which ushers in Yom Kippur, is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday in Lower Manhattan's Zuccotti Park, in the Wall Street area.

According to the Facebook Event page, it will be a traditional egalitarian service with men and women leading the prayers. The page said the service has been endorsed by Jews for Racial and Economic Justice and the Shalom Center.

More than 170 people have registered for the service, according to its organizer, Daniel Sieradski, the director of Jew It Yourself and former director of digital media at JTA. Rabbinical students from three denominations have volunteered and prayer books have been donated.

"We are hosting a Friday night Yom Kippur service to accommodate both Jewish demonstrators, and to bring out the Jewish community to protest the economic injustice that is happening in the U.S. and around the world," Sieradski told JTA.

Occupy Wall Street is an ongoing series of protests centered on demands for economic equality and an end to corporate greed. Demonstrations began Sept. 17 in Zuccotti Park; similar protests have spread to Washington, Los Angeles, Boston and Chicago, among other cities.
