An Israeli man was kidnapped Friday in the Sinai Peninsula along with a Norwegian woman, AFP reports. Israeli press identifies him as an Arab with Israeli citizenship
The two were intercepted by armed Bedouin men as they traveled between two beach resort towns. The men stopped the tourists' car at gunpoint and forced them into a truck, according to Egyptian police.
Police originally reported that the female kidnapping victim was a Belgian citizen.
According to the report, the kidnappers are seeking to trade their two captives for jailed tribesmen. Israel's Counter Terrorism Bureau has issued strong warnings against travel to Egypt in recent years, warning that "killings and kidnappings" are possible in the area.
Sinai has suffered a deterioration in security since the ouster of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, and kidnappings have become increasingly common. The region has also become a source of anti-Israel terror, including rocket attacks. via israelnn.com
