Israeli police believe that an Arab truck driver intentionally rammed into several cars in Tel Aviv on Sunday morning, killing one person, a 29 year-old man, and injuring at least 17 others.
Israeli radio reports that police don't believe the driver's claim that he lost
control of his truck after a tire blew out, saying instead that terrorism is suspected. Israeli media is also reporting that the man who is a resident of the village of Kfar Kassem, has terrorist ties. After running into cars and vehicles, the truck eventually crashed into a bus that appears to have been empty. Eyewitnesses on the scene said the truck seemed "determined to crash into the cars." The truck toppled traffic lights and signals before coming to a stop not far from a school as many children and parents were arriving.
It appears that another terror attack was thwarted on Sunday morning not far from where this incident occurred and the two may be connected.
Another eyewitness said that the truck seemed to hit everything intentionally and that the driver was steering "with insanity." He said "At first I thought it was a car-accident but then I realized it had to be terror. People screamed and begged him to stop, but he didn't."
This is not the first time this kind of "car-terror" has occurred in Israel. In 2008 there were multiple cases in which Arabs attempted to harm Jews using cars or bulldozers. In 2009, a terrorist in Jerusalem hijacked a tractor and did not stop trying to run people over until he was physically stopped.
Police have arrested the driver, who is currently being questioned.
