What Do You Need?

  • 1 square green pint-sized plastic container of the lattice kind (the type found at the supermarket for berries)
  • 1 piece of laminated fabric, wall or shelf paper for carpet
  • egg carton, 3 bottle caps, or spool and 2 caps (for table and chairs)
  • 1 birthday candle (optional)
  • evergreen twigs or green paper
  • autumn hedge berries or red beads that you can string
  • cardboard
  • glue and rag
  • felt pen and crayons
Kids in Sukkah Let's Get Started!
  1. Cut cardboard to measure 7x 8 inches (18x20 cm).
  2. Place container over fabric and trace around it with a pencil.
  3. Cut the fabric so it's slightly smaller than the marked square. Since it will serve as a carpet, it should not extend beyond the sukkah's walls.
  4. Glue carpet in center of cardboard.
  5. Cut a door in one side of the basket.
  6. For table, cut one section from egg carton and trim the bottom. Or use spool.
  7. Glue table and chairs in center of carpet. Glue small birthday candle on top of the table.
  8. Decorate the sukkah with greenery and berries by weaving them through the lattice walls.
  9. Spread glue on rim of sukkah and glue it to the carpet. Press down lightly and let dry.
  10. Decorate the cardboard around the sukkah by drawing vines, flowers and fruits.
